Gastro-esophageal reflux and hiatus hernia--endoscopy.

چکیده
The endoscopic diagnosis of hiatal hernia (sliding type) relies on direct and indirect criteria during the oesophagoscopic or gastroscopic approach. A wide separation between the anatomic and mucosal oesophago-gastric junction, the presence of a so-called Schatzki-ring, a wandering junction with sliding gastric mucosal folds during inspiration and two ringlike structures are important. Whereas radiology seems to be superior to endoscopy in the diagnosis of asymptomatic hiatus hernia, oesophagoscopy may reveal sequelae of reflux like oesophagitis, erosions, ulcers and strictures. Peptic oesophagitis is found in about 10% to cause upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage.

Anti-reflux mucosectomy for gastroesophageal reflux disease in the absence of hiatus hernia: a pilot study
BACKGROUND In our previous case report of circumferential mucosal resection for short-segment Barrett's esophagus with high-grade dysplasia, symptoms of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) were significantly improved. This observation suggests that anti-reflux mucosectomy (ARMS) could represent an effective anti-reflux procedure, with the advantage that no artificial devices or prostheses w...

متن کاملGastro-oesophageal reflux and "epileptic" attacks: casually associated or related? Efficiency of antireflux surgery: a case report.
Although a possible link between gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and obstructive sleeping apnoea has already been reported in the literature, there has never been any suggestion of an association with epilepsy, and epileptic attacks have not so far been included among gastro-oesophageal reflux disease symptoms. We report the case of a patient with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease asso...
متن کاملHelicobacter pylori and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease: a cross-sectional epidemiological study.
BACKGROUND H. pylori infection is accompanied by a lower prevalence of reflux disease. There is still an ongoing debate as to whether H. pylori actually protects against the development of reflux oesophagitis or is merely an epiphenomenon. A cross-sectional study was performed to study the relation of H. pylori with reflux oesophagitis, hiatus hernia and Barrett's oesophagus. MATERIAL AND MET...
متن کاملDistal Esophageal Duplication Cyst with Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease: A Rare Association and a Management Challenge.
Esophageal duplication cysts are rare congenital abnormalities of the foregut and may be associated with other conditions. Association of esophageal duplication with Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) has not been reported in children. We are reporting a case of a 16 months baby who had antenatal diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia. Postnatal CTchest, however, suggested a distal esophageal d...
